Verbos 1.0 Tutorial

Verbos 1.0 is designed to provide a one on one coaching environment in order to practice Spanish verb tense formation. If you have comments or questions, please use the F5 “leave a message” option from the main practice screen. The following instructions will help you navigate your way through the program.

At the startup screen, begin by following the onscreen instructions. Once you enter your social security number, choose the mode you wish to use:

REGULAR MODE: This mode selects verbs at random from a database of 270 of the most common regular and irregular verbs in Spanish.

LIST MODE: This mode uses verbs found in a list that corresponds to a chapter in your textbook. The lists IRR1, IRR2 refer to lists of verbs that are irregular for that tense (1=present), while IRRPROG and IRRPERF represent all the progressive and perfect tenses.

ASSIGNMENT MODE: This mode uses a list of verbs that your professor has designated, and saves your percentages for the assignment separate from your percentages already done in Regular or List mode. The program adds your percentages for the assignment to your total percentages, but can report separately on totals and assignments regardless of the number of assignments (each assignment’s data is saved separately). If your professor gives you such an assignment you will need to know the name of that assignment.

Level of difficulty: When using Regular or List Mode you will be asked which level you wish to use. With level 3 (the most difficult), you must input all forms of the verb before receiving any feedback.

At level 2, you are evaluated immediately after each form. The program will delay a second or two and then blank out all your answers before allowing you to enter the next form. At level 1, the easiest, you are evaluated immediately after each form and are allowed to see your responses on screen at all times.

F2: Pressing this key from the main practice screen produces the Tense Selection window. You may choose a different tense to practice at this point (in Regular and List mode only).

F3: Pressing this key from the main practice screen produces the ModeSelection window. You may choose a different mode at this point: Regular, List, Assignment. In Assignment mode you must complete all the conjugations of the current verb first.

F4: Pressing this key from the main practice screen toggles the sound between TONES, VOICE (If a soundblaster card is present), and OFF.

F5: Pressing this key from the main practice screen allows the student to leave a message for the program coordinator. This can be helpful if the student wishes to ask a question or simply make a comment about the program. The student will be able to choose whether or not a reply is requested.

F6: Pressing this key from the main practice screen produces a progress report. If you have done more than 60 conjugations the program will allow you to see a report on you complete totals or a report on the last 60 conjugations you have done for all tenses. In this way you can gage how well you have progressed. If you are in Assignment mode this report will be limited to the assignment scores only.

F7: Pressing this key from REGULAR mode toggles between random and non-random tenses. This option will only work after you have finished conjugating a verb. It will not work while you are in the process of conjugating.

F8: Pressing this key from REGULAR mode after completing a verb allows a student to select 1) Any verb, 2) Irregular verbs only, and 3) Regular verbs only.

Esc: Pressing this key from the main practice screen exits the program.
